Petrescu Receives Offer From...Lech Poznan?

Romanian media reports that Lech Poznan made an offer to Dan Petrescu. The FC Kuban Krasnodar coach would replace Jacek Zielinski as manager of Lech Poznan.

Dan Petrescu also has offers from other clubs.  According to Romanian media, Al-Gharafa from Qatar are also interested in the Romanian coach.

In 2006, Petrescu coached Wisla Krakow, which finished second place in the Ekstraklasa.

Would you like to see the former Chelsea winger as coach of Lech Poznan?

PolandSoccer 23 For Ivory Coast

In about a week or so, Frank Smuda will call up 23 players for friendly match against Ivory Coast. The pressure is on Smuda and his players as Poland have not won a match in seven months.

Goalkeepers: Lukasz Fabianski, Przemyslaw Tyton

Defenders: Maciej Sadlok, Dariusz Dudka, Kamil Glik, Lukasz Piszczek, Dariusz Pietrasiak, Lukasz Mierzejewski, Artur Jedrzejczyk, Marcin Kikut

Midfielders: Jakub Blaszczykowski, Ludovic Obraniak, Adam Matuszczyk, Adrian Mierzejewski, Rafal Murawski, Tomasz Cywka, Slawomir Peszko, Janusz Gol

Forwards: Robert Lewandowski, Kamil Grosicki, Ireneusz Jelen, Artur Sobiech, Euzebiusz Smolarek

Left off last team: Artur Boruc, Michal Zewlakow, Grzegorz Wojtkowiak, Hubert Wolakiewicz,  RadosÅ‚aw Majewski, Bartosz Salamon, Grzegorz Bonin, Andrzej Niedzielan

New additions: Lukasz Fabianski, Maciej Sadlok, Dariusz Dudka, Marcin Kikut, Tomasz Cywka,  Janusz Gol

My thoughts

Goalkeepers: Most likely Smuda will take only two keepers for one friendly. I still don't know if Boruc is suspended by Smuda for drinking on the plane. If he is, Boruc should be replaced by Lukasz Fabianski. The Arsenal keeper was once Smuda's favorite keeper.

Defenders: Just like Boruc, Zewlakow is suspended by Smuda for drinking. Maciej Sadlok returns to the natioanl team after rejected a call up to the North America Tour beacuse hes scared of flying planes. Dariusz Dudka will replace injured Sebastian Boenisch as our left defender. Smuda wanted him for the last friendlies but Auxerre rejected his call up. The only surprise is Lech Poznan defender Marcin Kikut. He played great in all of the Europa League matches. I think he deserves a chance.

Midfielders: After being suspended by Smuda for drinking with IwanskiSlawomir Peszko should return to the NT. Smuda already spoke to Peszko. The other little surprise should be Tomasz Cywka. The kid is playing great in the Championship for Derby. Smuda also said he wants to give Janusz Gol a chance at the natioanl team. Radek Majewski is left off. I don't see him as a NT player. Hes having a hard to getting 90 minutes and sometimes doesn't even start. Smuda already underlined that he wont call up Bartosz Salamon.

Forwards: Irek Jelen is still injured but he should be ready to go. Kamil Grosicki is playing well for Jaga and should get more playing time at the NT level. Artur Sobiech should also return. The kid is playing great for Polonia. I left off Grzegorz Bonin, I think hes just a waste of a call up. I didnt know what to do with Ebi Smolarek. I don't see him as the same player he once was at the international level. I rather see Legia youngster Michal Kucharczyk. We may see him in the December friendly.

Chorazyk Answers Questions About Acquafresca And Koscielny!

Maciej Chorazyk, main coordinator and chief scout for the Polish national team deals with players abroad who want to play for the Polish natioanl team. Thanks to this man, today we have Ludovic Obraniak, Adam Matuszczyk and Sebastian Boenisch

How does the situation look like with Robert Acquafresca?

In his current form, it doesn't look like he has any chance of being called up to the Italian national team. He has to rebuild his form and position as a Serie A striker. When he returns to top form, Frank Smuda will certainly take a closer look at him.

Laurent Koscielny made his decision and chose to play for France, despite the fact that he isn't being called up French national team.

He has closed his own door to the Polish national team. When I used to talk with him, he was very enthusiastic about playing for Poland. He gathered all the necessary documents for Polish citizenship and his commitment was visible. After moving to Arsenal, his attitude changed dramatically. I think his new club has a lot to do with it. Koscielny openly admits that he is waiting for a call up to the French NT. Chances that he plays for us is 1%; in other words, they are purely theoretical.

What about Sebastian Tyrala? Convincing him to play for Poland was once your biggest success, but now he plays for a bottom table team in the second Bundesliga.

To date, Ludovic Obraniak is our biggest success, followed by Adam Matuszczyk. Tyrala was the first fruit of our labor. We succeeded in convincing a player who played many times for the German youth teams. Sebastian has had problems with injuries and they have unfortunately sidelined his career. I think we will still benefit from him in the national team in the future.

Arsenal Unwilling To Loan Out Wojciech Szczesny To Celtic!

Scottish side Celtic Glasgow want Arsenal's third keeper Wojciech Szczesny on loan but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has rejected the offer.

The Polish keeper impressed the Scottish side during match against Newcastle United.

Szczesny will now be expected to push for the No.1 spot at Arsenal.

-“I want to play him, but our job is about competition. However, he has the qualities to fight for the position and that is what I wish," said Wenger.

Janczyk Leaves Germinal Beerschot!

Former Legia Warszawa forward Dawid Janczyk is close to returning to Legia after terminating his loan deal with Germinal Beerschot.

CSKA Moscow who still owns Janczyk granted permission to the player to train with Legia Warszawa. Now Legia officials must negotiate with CSKA for a permit deal or loan deal for Janczyk

But it wont be easy for Legia officials. Legia would like CSKA to terminate Janczyk's contract so that they can sign him for free. CSKA may deaned cash for Janczyk after paying three million for him in 2007.

Do you think Janczyk's desicion to return to Poland is the right desicion?

Poland Soccer's 'BIG 5' Matches to watch this weekend!

So here we have another weekend, it's not easy finding Polish matches that will be good to watch (don't think it ever really was... sadly) lucky there's two promising fixtures in the Ekstraklasa and thankfully we have a club in the Bundesliga that has a few Polish players in it and it's doing well in the league! The Other two I selected were just thanks to Perquis showing interest in the Kadra... and a MUST WATCH match for any football fan, no matter what ethnicity. I hope this selection helps with your weekend plans on the couch.

Time for one of Germany's biggest clubs to make a statement. Poles have something to say in it too.
1. Probably the best 'Polish-ish' match on. (Borussia Dortmund vs. Mainz Sunday 3:30 PM CET)
Can Jurgen Klopp guide his BvB team against his old club? Both Mainz and BvB will look for three points after being knocked out of the Domestic Cup by lower league teams. Lewandowski still has to show he is improving by scoring more goals (at the moment Kagawa is putting him to shame), Blaszczykowski should be playing fine, he has established himself in the club very well. On the other side we have a 'could be' Pole, Eugen Polanski (who has said 'nein' to Smuda) but it would be interesting to see how he contributes to Mainz's top form run this season. Should be a good match since it is a fight for the top spot in the Bundesliga.

2. Once top teams, now underachievers... (Lech Poznan vs. Wisla Krakow Sunday 5 PM CET)
Last season this would have been a Polish Blockbuster, not this time... But I still believe it should be a decent match (Poznan may not be at full strength because of the focus they have set on Europe), I am looking forward to see how it ends up since neither of them are such 'powerhouses' in the Polish league as they were last two seasons. Lech have the home ground advantage, while Wisla have a pretty healthy squad to play. I still believe either of the teams can climb back up, They've just been unlucky so it should still be an entertaining encounter.

3. Can Perquis' team take advantage of Lyon's domestic form? (Lyon vs. Sochaux Saturday 7 PM CET)
Lyon have had a fantastic Champions League campaign so far in Europe, winning all three matches against Schalke, Benefica and Hapoel. Unfortunately Lyon's Ligue 1 hasn't been the same and ever since Marsielle won the Championship last season it seems that the title will be up for grabs again. Probably a new team will snatch the title. Could one of the contenders be Perquis' Sochaux? The Defender is a potential Polish call-up and once he gets his passport, he'll hopefully be playing for the Bialo-Czerwoni. Perquis has also proved to be scoring goals and pretty consistently; 3 goals in 8 appearances compared to his striker and midfield teammates who have the same amount of goals in 10 appearances. Definitely a match to watch.

4. The Top vs. The Club who wishes to be on Top (Jagiellonia vs. Polonia Warszawa Friday 8 PM CET)
Jagiellonia have been fantastic since last season. Winning the Polish Cup, Super Cup and possibly the new Ekstraklasa Champions of 10/11. They were deducted points last season and were expected to be relegated early in the season, but they proved their doubters wrong. Polonia would like to be on to top, and I am disgusted at the owner Wojciechowski's over-ambitious stupidity (how he sacked Bakero after one loss), I really thought they'd be doing well this season... but they're still fifth and can climb up, this is a must win for both teams.

5. The BIG EUROPEAN Clash (AC Milan vs. Juventus Saturday 8:45 PM CET)
A 'must watch' for all fans, for Milan to secure top position in the Serie A the 'Rossoneri' need to win a tough match against historic rivals Juventus. That is not all, another match will determine the narrow top spot between Palermo (where our Kamil Glik is a defender, he's injured from what I've heard) and current leaders Lazio. So The Milanese outfit must win and Lazio must lose to the Pink shirts, it may also  boost confidence for AC Milan if bitter rivals Inter are held by or lose to Genoa. A big week of football in Italy for sure!

Poland To Play In Lubin!

In 2011, Poland will play a friendly match at Dialog Arena in Lubin.  Bialo-Czerwoni will play either Italy or Russia.

The match hasn't been yet confirmed but Zaglebie Lubin president Jerzy Kozinski spoke to Grzegorz Lato and the PZPN president promised that a match will be played in Lubin.

The match would be played in June 2011.

Smuda Will Travel To See Roger!

For the last couple of months, Polish soccer fans may have forgotten about Roger Guerreiro. The Brazilian-born with a Polish passport is slowly returning to high form and soon can be call up to the Polish national team.

Today, Roger had a fantastic match as his club AEK Athens defeated Panthrakikos 5:1 in the Greece Cup.  The former Legia Warszawa star started and recorded two assist.

-"First I got injured, and then I got infected with a virus . I couldn't train for two months. Then former coach Dusan Bajevic didn't want to play me," Roger told Polska The Times.

According to Super Express, Frank Smuda who earlier said that he will not call up Roger to his kadra is planning to travel to Greece to watch Roger in action. Smuda will watch AEK Athens take on Panionios and if Roger impresses, he could find his name on Smuda's call up sheet.

-"I never quit for the national team. Coach Smuda needs to know that Im always return to return to the NT," Roger added.

Szczesny vs. Newcastle United

Wojciech Szczesny started his second career match for Arsenal as they took on Newcastle United in the Carling Cup. After a nervous start, Szczesny calmed down and made some nice saves.

Here are the full match highlights

Jakub Blaszczykowski, The New Captain Of The Polish National Team!

After poor performances lately by Michal Zewlakow, Frank Smuda has decided to search for a new captain and leader of the Polish national team. From all reports, it appears his search was a quick and fruitful one. According to many reports, Jakub Blaszczykowski will become the new captain of the Polish national team.

-"More and more, he is showing overall responsibility when it comes to the national team. He not only gives 100% on the pitch, but he is also setting a good example off the pitch," said Smuda.

On November 27th, Smuda will travel to Germany to watch Borussia Dortmund take on Borussia Monchengladbach.

-"I'm going there to see my players and to watch them in action. Kuba and Lukasz (Piszczek) are performing well. I must admit that we're building our team around Kuba Blaszczykowski. He will be our new captain for Euro 2012," Smuda told Przeglad Sportowy.

On her twitter account, Agnieszka Olejkowska spokeswoman of PZPN wrote, "Our national team will have a new captain for Euro. It will be Jakub Blaszczykowski."

Like promised, Frank Smuda will give a chance to anyone that deserves it. Trying to built the best squad for Euro 2012, desperate Smuda will take any player that performs well in his club team.

Tomorrow I will post 5 players that deserve a call up for the national team.

Szczesny To Get His Chance!

On Wednesday night, when Arsenal take on Newcastle United in the Carling Cup, youngster Wojciech Szczesny will start in goal for the Gunnars.

Wenger has high hopes for Szczesny but the manager insists his future does not rest on one Carling Cup tie.

-"He can show he is a good keeper and I believe he is one but there again let's not make stars before they have proven they are. He has the talent, he has a good attitude and let's see his performance in the games.

"You want of course a good performance but let’s not put him under too much pressure. Let's let him enjoy the game and not speak about contracts.

"He’s a goalkeeper we rate, he knows he has been educated here, we want him to stay here and the only way I can show him that is by giving him a chance when it is possible. Tomorrow he gets that chance."

Szymon Gasinski (Polonia Bytom)- He played effectively. Made key saves on Lukasz Gikiewicz, Przemyslaw Kazmierczak and Krzysztof Wolczek.

---------------

Souheil Ben Radhia (Widzew Lodz)- Thats was his best match since joining Widzew. When needed, he went up to the offensive side and dominate his side of the field.

Adam Danch (Gornik Zabrze)- Won every possible ball in the air. He possessed himself perfectly and helped Gornik defeat Lech Poznan.

Dudu Paraiba (Widzew Lodz)- Crossed a great ball to Robak who scored a goal of that ball. Made one of the best assists of the season.

---------------

Miroslav Radovic (Legia Warszawa)- Slowly returns to his previous form. Scored a goal, won a penalty kick and often threated his opponents with his offensive game.

Mindaugas Panka (Widzew Lodz)- A great defensive performance by the Lithuanian midfielder. Also found the back of the net.

Andreu (Polonia Warszawa)- He ruled the midfield for Polonia Warszawa. He played smart. Distributed the ball perfectly.

Andraz Kirm (Wisla Krakow)- Finally showed why he was playing at the World Cup. Scored two goals, recorded an assist and won a penalty kick. Played with hunger for the first time.

---------------

Michal Kucharczyk (Legia Warszawa)- Another impressing match by the youngster. Scored a goal. recorded an assist and caused his opponents problems the whole night.

Marcin Robak (Widzew Lodz)- A huge match for Robak. Scored two goals with his head and recorded an assist to Grzelak's goal.

Marcin Wodecki (Gornik Zabrze)- The 22-year old played his best match in his young career. Shock Poland by scoring two goals against Lech Poznan.

Smuda: Tyrala And Brzenska Are Too Weak!

Poland national team coach Franz Smuda is looking anywhere for players that could help out our national team. This weekend, Smuda traveled to Germany to observe Markus Brzenska and Sebastian Tyrala. Smuda also watched Wisla Krakow take on Lechia Gdansk.

What are your conclusions after watching Tyrala and Brzenska in the 2. Bundesliga?

Smuda: Right now they are not at the international level. Brzenska made a huge mistake in the game which had an impact on the outcome. I want to underline that I went there to watch them and not to call up to the national team.

Did you see anything interesting in the Wisla Krakow-Lechia Gdansk match?

Smuda: I didn't discover anyone new to the national team. Sad to see that Hubert Wolakiewicz got injured.

According to "Gazeta Wyborcza Krakow", Cracovia president Janusz Filipiak has alreadybegan  talking to Ulatowski's successor. Most likely, former Legia Warszawa manager Jan Urban will take over Ulatowski

The 37-year old Ulatowski was an assistant under Leo Beenhakker with the Polish national team.

Wenger Admits Fabianski Could Displace Almunia As Arsenal’s First-Choice Goalkeeper!

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted the impressive performances of Lukasz Fabianski this season could see the Polish goalkeeper promoted to Arsenal's number-one choice ahead of Manuel Almunia.

In his post-match press conference, Wenger admitted that Fabianski could displace Almunia as his first-choice goalkeeper.

-“I don’t say that definitely he will be No. 1 because you always need the freedom to change when it is really needed. But look at his performances. You can't fault him at all,” said Wenger.

-“From game to game he shows what I see in training. In our job, sometimes, you have to be prepared to fight a bit against opinions.

-"It is easier for you when you know the player has the talent and I believe he has the talent."

Another Spectacular Performance By Fabianski!

Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianski was given another chance by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and once again the Pole showed why he deserves to be Arsenal's number one regularly. Fabianski was tested often by Manchester City but he stayed strong the full 90 minutes. Here are some ratings Fabianski received from the English media.

Rating Scale 1-10

Arsenal Offside: Rating 8 (Man of the Match)- Fantastic match. Was confident, made good decisions when coming off his line, and didn’t flap. He saved our butts a couple of times by making a great save from an Adebayor header (which was called offside anyway) and a class strike from David Silva. He’s working very hard to prove his doubters wrong.

Sky Sports: Rating 8

Goal.com: Rating 8- Perhaps the most reassuring display in an Arsenal shirt by the fallible Pole. Showed fine reflexes to save from Silva early on and then Adebayor and Boateng in the closing minutes.

The Gunning Hawk: Rating 9- Apart from the mistimed punch on Adebayor, Lukasz had a perfect game as he keeps on showing how his confidence is back and there is no more room for Manuel Almunia.

Is it time for Fabianski to return to the national team?

Recently, out of nowhere, Markus Brzenska announced that he wants to play for the Polish national team. Desperate for new defenders, Frank Smuda traveled to Germany on Friday to watch the 26-year old Brzenska in action. Brzenska, considered by many as one of the best defenders in the 2. Bundesliga had a solid game until the 66th minute.

In the 66th minute, Brzenska made a crucial mistake that led to a goal. In that moment, Energie Cottbue went down 2:0 and never fought back.

Boenisch To Be Back In Three Months!

Looks like Sebastian Boenisch will return to action sooner than later. According to Boenisch himself, the Werder Bremen defender should be back on the field in about three months. At first, doctors determined that Boenisch will be out for about half a year.

Were people from the Polish national team interested in your injury?

Poland Soccer's 'BIG 5' matches to watch this weekend!

This weekend we will have some dramatic clashes in Europe, now I have the privilege to share the top 5 matches on the weekend (and I'm guessing they have to have something Polish related in them) so it wasn't much of a choice, but thankfully we have a useful keeper in Arsenal at the moment and that is where it starts:

I think it is safe to say, most Poles will back Arsenal at Eastlands this Sunday (esp. after the Lech meeting)

1.The Blockbuster (Manchester City-Arsenal Sunday 5 PM CET)
Fresh of their win against Lech Poznan in the Europa League, Man City will take on Arsenal. Most likey, once again Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianski will stand in between the posts for Arsenal. Fabianski will be looking for another strong performance to prove to Wenger that he can be the number one keeper at the Emirates. Fabianski will have to take on big names like Tevez, David Silva, Adebayor and Wright-Phillips. Arsenal have to win this one if the want to stay fresh with the title chase, so best of luck to Wenger, Fabianski and co. If that sounded too biased, may the best team win.

2.The Polish Clash to watch (Legia Warszawa-Korona Kielce Friday 8 PM CET)

They are the Polish team in form but can they be stopped by an ambitious Legia Warszawa? Legia spent a lot this summer to bring in some new talent so this will put their scouts' choices to the test when they play Friday evening. It is important to know that Korona will be playing without Niedzielan who is the Ekstraklasa's top scorer and the reason why Korona was doing so well so far. So it will be even more humiliating for the Warsaw "giants" if they can't win it... if you don't like either of these teams (like me), I do recommend Gornik Zabrze vs Lech Poznan. Defending Champions Lech will have to battle their way back up the table (they've been busy in Europa), while the Slask's beloved team (promoted this season) want to keep a decent comeback campaign domestically. But ultimately, the Legia match will be the one to watch.

3.Football's biggest rivals meet again (Celtic FC-Rangers Sunday 1:45 PM CET)
This match will give the first hint of who will win the Scottish Premier League out of the two Glasgow giants. Celtic are the club that Polish players have the most ties with... but I don't think Zaluska will be the starting keeper since Lennon (Celtic manager) has preferred to use young Fraser Forster of England throughout the league, but maybe Zaluska's experience will win the position for him this time. So far both teams have a 100% win rate, with Rangers leading by goal difference but Celtic are better defensively so far by only conceding 4 goals in 8 matches while Rangers have conceded 7. Rangers have a busier schedule at the moment so Celtic have no decent excuse to lose at Celtic Park this Sunday. There'll be a lot of aggressive play in this match and a lot of Police forces at work in the city region.

4.Should be a quality match (LOSC Lille Metropole-Olimpique du Marsielle Sunday 9 PM CET)
Ludovic Obraniak's Lille face the reigning French Champions who currently occupy 4th spot on the table in Ligue 1. Will Lille be able to outplay them this time after both clubs managed to slip in 1-0 wins in their European campaigns this week? Another question will be if Obraniak will play in the match (he's had 6 out of 9 appearances in the season so far)... Meanwhile a rivalry match between PSG and AJ Auxerre is on but Jelen will probably not be playing and what Polish fan wants to watch Dariusz Dudka appart from his family? So the Lille match will be much more entertaining I bet...

5.Can Zewlakow's team take on the Champions? (MKE Ankaragucu-Bursaspor Sunday 1:30 PM CET)
Bursaspor will be looking to keep the top spot this weekend after being narrowly beaten by Manchester United at Old Trafford. Can Zewlakow and co. hold them off or even defeat the current Turkish Champions? I noticed another Polish name in the squad that has played more games than the Polish captain but he's a Canadian international from the records (Klukowski), but a Polish name is good enough for me. Ankaragucu are showing decent form winning the last two games and scoring 4 in each, can they extend the streak to three? We shall see...

Player Ratings: Manchester City vs. Lech Poznan

Starters (Rating Scale 1-10)

Jasmin Buric- Had no chance with the goals but stayed big and made a superb stop to deny Adebayor in the final stages of the first-half. No much work to do. Rating 6.5

Luis Henriquez- Showed good pace and athleticism to handle Wright-Phillips in the first-half but struggled once Johnson started taking him on after the break. Rating 5.5

Bartosz Bosacki- The captain never looked comfortable with Adebayor's size and skill, giving him far too much room for the first goal. Actually, he did it for all three goals. Rating 5

Manuel Arboleda- Solid start as he made some robust tackles but lost concentration for the second goal. Replaced in the 70th minute by Djurdjevic due to injury. Rating 6

Marcin Kikut- Initially started comfortably but by the end was like a deer in the headlights as he was overwhelmed by City's movement. Rating 5.5

Slawomir Peszko- Showed the pace at trickery to threaten the City defence but did not have the delivery in the final third. Fired early chance wide. Rating 7

Dimitrije Injac- Overpowered and overun by the Manchester City midfield. Should have been the defensive screen marking Silva but could not get near the Spanish genius. Rating 5.5

Kamil Drygas- Had no time to settle on the ball and show any of his passing skills before he was replaced by Rudnevs in the 55th minute. Took the most shots but all of them wide. Rating 5.5

Jakub Wilk- The left-winger was comprehensively beaten in his battle with Richards and did not once beat the City right-back or deliver a dangerous ball into the penalty area. Rating 5

Sergey Krivets- Restricted to long-range potshots in the first-half but improved with some cute passing as his side fought their way back into contention. Rating 6.5

Joel Tshibamba- The lone striker struggled during the first-half as he was easily robbed of possession on the rare occasions the visitors got the ball to him. Scored his first chance of the game in the second-half and thereafter grew as a thread. Blazed over glorious opportunity to equalise. Rating 6.5

Subs

Semir Stilic- Replaced Wilk in the 55th minute and the attacking had far more influence as the visitors made a game of it. Rating 6

Artjoms Rudnevs- Replaced Drygas in the 55th minute and made some powerful runs to little avail. Rating 6

Ivan Djurdjevic- Replaced injured Arboleda. Make a mistake by Man City's third goal. Rating 5
