Piszczek Sentenced for Match-Fixing
Poland national team defender Lukasz Piszczek has been accused of involvement in match-fixing between Cracovia Krakow and Zaglebie Lublin, voluntarily accepted the penalty of one year in prison, suspended for 3 years.
He also has to pay a 100,000 zloty fine and pay back 48,000 zloty bonus that he received for qualifying for the UEFA Cup. The sentence was imposed by the District Court in Wroclaw.
Wroclaw court also sentenced 10 others accused of match fixing. Players of Zaglebie Lublin paid Cracovia players 100,000 zloty of bribes for the draw. Thanks to it, Zaglebie Lublin advanced to the UEFA Cup.

i guess we can say good buy to our rightback :(
ReplyDeleteNo way, does this mean that he is not able for the Nationl team?
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't the club & coach punished?
ReplyDeleteThey both benefited probably as much if not more than the players.
If you hold the clubs & coaches accountable then corruption will be minimal, they will stamp it out themselves.
What does "penalty of one year in prison, suspended for 3 years" actually mean?
So, he gets a slap on the wrist and from what I hear if something similar happens then he is done and is jailed. For now, this will not affect his Borruis play and if Smuda doesnt want him out of the kadra he wont take him out - but as we all know Smuda likes to put his foot down, and we will have to see if he wants to make an example out of Piszczek!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think he will continue to play for Poland and club level. Just a bad thing to be spotlighted, seeing that he was young and didnt even play!
To me it means he will play during euro but have to serve one year in prison three years from now.
ReplyDeleteI don't think u guys understand the concept of a 'Suspended Sentence' Means that he has to go 3 years without commiting a crime, as a equivalent of 1 year of jail. If he commits a crime then he has to do the 1 year prison sentence instead of the 3 years suspended. Hope that made sense.
ReplyDeletewow. three year suspended sentence is the equivalent to three years probation. He will NEVER go to jail unless he fucks up again
