Thiago Cionek receives Polish citizenship

Jagiellonia Bialystok defender Thiago Cionek has finally received his Polish citizenship and is now eligible to play for the Polish national team.

Cionek's great-grandparents emigrated to Brazil from Poland in the nineteenth centuries. Cionek returned to Poland in 2008, when he joined Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Cionek applied for a Polish passport during Lech Kaczynski's presidency.

"Everything was delayed because of the tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski. I summited all of the documnets long time ago," said Cionek.

  1. Another EK defender...probably not worth the roster spot and the controversy.
