Smuda to leave Poland after disappointing Euro
Frank Smuda will leave his position as head coach of the Polish national team after a disappointing 1-0 loss in a must-win game against the Czech Republic.
"I'm 100 percent sure that my adventure with the Polish national team has ended," Smuda said.
Smuda's contract is valid until Euro 2012, with an option to extend if Poland qualified for the quarterfinal. However, they did not reach the contracts expatiations.
"I don't have to resign because I had a contract until the end of Euro 2012 and I do not see any reason for me to quit; the contract is finishing, because I had come to terms with the head of the FA and I know what will now happen," he said.
Smuda has coached the Polish national team since 2008.

Euro Cup 2012: Disappointment
ReplyDeleteBut we shall see if he did in fact build a strong young foundation like he keeps reiterating.
First Test: World Cup Qualifying
we need Leo Beenhakker!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy to see that we will have another coach! Now we need a real coach, like Jürgen Klopp.
ReplyDeleteIdk what to say about this. He didnt really impress me with some of decisions but I feel like it was the players who let me down at Euro's. Wish him luck in the future, at least we had some pretty good games.
ReplyDeleteI would say playing Defensive midfielders and seeing so little up front in attack besides on set pieces in a game we needed to win was terrible. That tactic was his fault especially when we needed two goals we should have been playing all out attack cause it was that or a loss. And I guess he chose to lose.
ReplyDeletelets get boniek as our head coach and peter nowak as our assistent coach. that'd be awesome!
ReplyDelete.......Boniek was already the head coach once......in 2002.....he lasted a whole five matches (2/1/2 record)
DeleteBoniek for President of PZPN
DeleteGuys peter novak was fired as head coach of philadelphia union. I believe there is a hugeee chance of him taking the poland national team job...becuz if not him who else would be a strong candidate?? I dunno how I feel about a foreigner as a head coach becuz of national pride but maybe a foreigner is what the team needs...they need a coach that doesnt play politics hence
ReplyDeletesmuda and murawski...a coach that isnt afraid of playing ayoung talemt hence wolski look at england and 18 year old chamberlin...a coach that will sub his star player whos playing like shit no matter if he is a world class talent or not lewy should have been subbed out yestetday his performance was horrible and he shud have had a goal...they need a coach that will intimidate them a mourinho type someone u have to impress to earn ur spot lewy kuba piszcek should not have a guaranteed spot unless they perform.and shoulnt play full 90 if they play good 45 mins and then completly disappear the next half!!! Fuck im still furious with yesterdays game how the fuckkkkk do u lose to czech at home and czwchs played w.o rosicky jeses christ im still in shock as is the whole fkin nation!!!!!!
Piotr Nowak is polish... hes not a foreigner. As far as his coaching abilities and him as a candidate I dont know. Hes probably a decent coach but I think we need a really good coach who has experience in the international game.
DeleteNowak was assistant of the USMNT... There is experience there.
Deletesmuda was 10x better than leo. Leo ruined poland's soccer. It took smuda the whole time to work them into actually playing real soccer. I like what he did, I have a few things I would change myself but he helped a lot. Now we need someone that will take what is given and push them a little more... we need help on offense
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. Smuda did rebuild a new young team he did his best. His tactics in the game were questionable but no coach is perfect. He assembled a good young team thats for sure. Beenhakker just screwed us over.
DeleteAnd I agree we need a good new coach to push this new young team to work great together.
Good analysis here. Smuda has created a young team and pushed us in the right direction, however his in-game tactics were very questionable.
DeleteI think we should go for a big name coach, we have good young talent.
Beenhakker screwed us over? I have to strongly disagree. The best games the Polish NT have played in the last 5 years were under Beenhakker. Leo tried to instill possession, attacking tactics, and belief among his players. It started to go downhill after qualifying for the Euro 08, but it can easily be argued that individual players screwed up our WC 2010 qualifying process (Boruc in Slovakia and NIR, etc)and not his coaching. His outside perspective also brought plenty of valid critiques about the way PZPN is run and how poor the youth development system is in Poland.
DeleteThe young or even middle-aged players that have started to emerge are of good promise to the future development and success of this squad, but when Beenhakker was around very few of them were even displaying potential.
Well let me rephrase and say that he screwed us over at the very end during the qualifying. He was basically playing out until the end of his contract and because in the contract it didn't say anything about a special bonus or laying off if we do not qualify for the World Cup then really he didn't care much. And it was evident that he didn't care much in the last few games.
DeleteBut yes hopefully for Brazil 2014 our youthful team will do well. I would really like to see Rafal Wolski be given a lot more playing time through the qualifying process. Its youth like Jack Wilshere for England or Neymar for Brazil that can bring in a new feel for the team.
We need a real NT coach, Leo and Smuda coaches are means, with certain qualities and certain default but in no case they are at the coaches of national teams. Smuda has built a team that is able to compete with most other teams, but is ineffective in terms of tactics games ...
ReplyDeleteMaciej Skorza is one of the rumoured candidates. I think that would be a mistake. Although he may be talented, debatable that may be, he has not earned this position. Not a single Polish manager working in the Ekstraklasa deserves this position.
ReplyDeleteI think we desperately need a foreign coach. But let's see what happens to the PZPN first. Now the fans are allowed to boycott and UEFA cannot do anything about it. The PZPN is in need of new management. Dudek and Boniek should be involved. Only two honest guys that ever put on a Poland shirt. Boniek really need to put his money where his mouth is.
Lato out!
ReplyDeleteI don't get it our volleyball team is class with an Italian coach... we should have another go with a foreign manager. Bring in an accomplished International coach, who knows how to keep track of Polish players' progress.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any coaches in mind?
Deletethey're unavailable at the moment :(
DeleteInteresting article... PZPN definitely needs new managenment.

That was definitely a great comment on Blaszczykowski's part. As for the Writer, he's an idiot.

DeleteThey didn't want to give tickets to the players because the PZPN and all of it 100+ members had to first take care of family and friends.
ReplyDeleteLato has no clue how to run the FA. He has no business sense. What exactly qualified him for this position in the first place? Now we find out that he not even a man of his word. His communist mentality is holding back Polish football. Until the PZPN is rid of the corrupt pigs we will continue seeing this nonsense.
lato szmato has to be dismissed
ReplyDeleteThe players wondering whether or not their families will be able to watch them play up until noon of game day is disgraceful.
ReplyDeleteHere is an article from the Minister of Sport stating that Lato should keep is word and resign like he said he would if we didn't make it past the group stage:
http://www.sport.pl/euro2012/1,109077,11960716,PZPN__Minister_Mucha__Lato_obiecal_dymisje__Trzymam.html
It seems that all of the PZPN is corrupt. How ridiculous was it when they tried to remove the eagle from the jersey? Why would they even attempt to that?
Beenhakker tried to do his best. All in all, I don't think that he was a good coach, but he highlighted the drunkenness and tomfoolery of the squad after he left, and made clear of the PZPN's inability to manage.
Smuda was a better coach, and he did a good job incorporating "foreign" players, but it just wasn't all there. He lacked good tactics and the players just came out flat in the second half of the Czech game, which shouldn't have happened at all.
The PZPN needs to be completely dismantled and rebuilt. It needs to have management that actually wants to win. Management which is both passionate and smart. The PZPN is neither of this.
Now they are talking about Piotr Nowak or Maciej Skorza... what difference is that really going to make?
How can we, as fans, dismantle the PZPN? What can we actively do to restructure the entire organization?
Its true PZPN is corrupt and what they did is a disgrace. Every other football organization gives their players the absolute best perhaps they are even too generous. Like Portugal renting out the entirety of an extremely expensive but luxurious hotel in Poland. I don't know of any other national football organization that is as corrupt as Polands. And I can't believe that they actually are hurting the team and not doing everything they can for them even though the entires nations hopes rested on them.
Deletea boycott again is in order.. Lato must go! no more ekstraklasa coaches for the NT! however, we will not get anyone decent who would tolerate the foolishness and corruption of the pzpn. beenhaker learned the hard way. first things first, clean house!
ReplyDeleteEK coaches should not be considered until we get our clubs playing well in Europe!
ReplyDeletePZPN needs to be reworked. Polish football is too corrupt. In the 2010 World Cup, Nigeria had a very poor run, which is unusual since Nigeria is an African heavyweight. In result, the Nigerian team and the Nigerian Football Federation were disbanded, because they wanted to start with a new slate; they wanted to rebuild Nigerian football from the ground up. Because of this, they did not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations (basically the Euro Cup but in Africa). The rebuilding has recently ended and Nigeria is doing very well in World Cup qualifying. This is what Poland needs. We actually brought up this idea after we failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. Poland planned to rebuild PZPN but FIFA stopped the plan from going into motion, because it was too close to Euro 2012 and they feared that we would not have a team ready by 2012. We have to rebuild PZPN now so we start anew; with a blank slate
ReplyDeleteAre you really saying that in the case of Nigeria, dissolving their football association suddenly made them play better? Weren't they already good (which as you said yourself they're an "African heavyweight")? I know playing well in world cup qualifying is something unheard of for us Poles, but Nigeria so far has a 1/1/0 record in their group of Namibia, Malawi, and Kenya. Real powerhouse group there. As much as I dislike the PZPN dissolving it will only make matters worse. Would that suddenly make it not corrupt? God no, this is Poland we're talking about. Would it suddenly make our team play better? I couldn't see how. And on top of it, we'd definitively be thrown out of world cup qualifying. So your idea is to solve nothing, yet on top of it just make sure we can't play in two world cups in a row.
DeleteIf you were to dissolve the PZPN now then we couldnt play in the World Cup. That would be completely idiotic because by the time we have another Euro and World Cup most of our players that played in Euro 2012 wouldnt play or theyd be retired. We have so many solid players right now, it would be a waste.
