Fornalik names 18 players for Romania friendly

Polish national team head coach Waldemar Fornalik named a 18-man roster for upcoming friendly vs. Romania.

The roster is made up of only Ekstraklasa players expect for Piotr Celeban, who plays in Romania, which also, is Poland's opponent in this game. Fornalik also surprised by calling up 17-year-old striker Mariusz Stepinski, who replaces Arkadiusz Milik, who moved to German Bayer Leverkusen this winter.

Here is Poland's full roster:
Goalkeepers: Lukasz Skorupski (Gornik Zabrze), Jakub Slowik (Jagiellonia Bialystok).
Defenders: Artur Jedrzejczyk (Legia Warszawa), Jakub Rzezniczak (Legia Warszawa), Jakub Wawrzyniak (Legia Warszawa), Lukasz Broz (Widzew Lodz), Tomasz Jodlowiec (Slask Wroclaw), Piotr Celeban (FC Vaslui).

Midfielders: Dominik Furman (Legia Warszawa), Daniel Lukasik (Legia Warszawa), Jakub Kosecki (Legia Warszawa), Przemyslaw Kazmierczak (Slask Wroclaw), Waldemar Sobota (Slask Wroclaw), Pawel Wszolek (Polonia Warszawa), Szymon Pawlowski (Zaglebie Lubin), Tomasz Kupisz (Jagiellonia Bialystok).

Forwards: Mariusz Stepinski (Widzew Lodz), Arkadiusz Piech (Ruch Chorzow).
What do you think of Fornalik's call ups?

  2. Anybody know when we can expect Rafal Wolski back?

  3. hes already back, but either he wasn't at top form or Legia simply wanted to keep a closer eye on his training.

  4. This is stupid, as if any of those defenders aside from Waw has a chance to really play in the important matches. Perquis and Wasyl have been riding the bench lately, they could have used the game time more. And Theodorczyk deserves a callup more than Piech, lol what happen to that winter transfer eh Piech? Milik got his and Wszolek got one he didn't even want yet.

  5. This is a DOMESTIC match, only Players based in the two countries can play in this match so Perquis and Wasyl couldn't play in it. Teodorczyk wasn't called up because hes still injured, Wolski is healthy now but Legia doesn't want to risk him.

  6. Our defense is thin - this would be a good time to call up Lukasz Szukala a defender who plays for Steaua Bucuresti and is eligible to play for Poland.

Fornalik has nothing to lose by calling up Szukala (same with Pekalski).

    1. Przegląd Sportowy published a nice interview with Szukała about a week ago. He specifically stated that he wouldn't be able to play in the Poland-Romania game because his team has a Europa League match. Five or so regulars from the Romanian NT play for the same club and will miss the match for the same reason. He did say that he's hoping to play in the Ireland match a few days later.

Regarding Pękalski: the Swedish NT beat us to the punch. He's going to play for Sweden at the King's Cup soon. He can still play for Poland, but Fornalik probably will have to make a good sales pitch at this point. That seems unlikely since he virtually has said on multiple occasions that he doesn't rate Pękalski.
