Pre-game: Who should Nawalka start vs. Scotland?

There are several old faces returning to the Polish national team as Adam Nawlka hopes to clinch his first win with Poland's A team.

Game-time is set for 2:45 pm est.

As reported previously, Robert Lewandowski will sit out with a knee injury. It's the first time that the Polish national team will play without both Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski since their 2-0 win over Liechtenstein in June 2013.

My guess (4-2-3-1): Szczesny - Piszczek, Glik, Szukala, Brzyski - Krychowiak, Klich - Sobota, Obraniak, Rybus, Klich - Milik.

Onet.pl reported that Nawalka wants to start offensive, possibly a 4-3-3: Szczesny - Piszczek, Glik, Szukala, Brzyski - Krychowiak, Klich, Obraniak - Sobota, Milik, Rybus.

Which starting lineup would you like to see from the first minute?

  1. Your guess is my guess except Peszko for Rybus (I wouldn't prefer)

  2. Who is going to score for this team? Obraniak off a free kick?

  3. I'd rather have Sobota or Rybus not in the starting lineup but as a sub and move Klich up to playmaker and Obraniak on the wing and throw Polanski next to Krych in the DM. Obraniak isn't that good with throughballs but he is a cross specialist. Klich from highlights of the dutch league I've seen has good throughball passing skills.

  4. That's a pretty ugly looking lineup. Without the engine, Blaszczykowski, it ain't going to be pretty.

  5. Obraniak the only person in the starting 11, not singing the national anthem. It's not that hard to learn.

    1. Who gives a shit. Podolski doesn't sign the German anthem, and yet he has 100+ caps for Germany. It doesn't mean a thing. These are professional footballers, not boy scouts.

    2. They are professional footballers outside of these matches. What they are doing is a service, a duty to Poland.

Podolski actually knows the German national anthem. The argument here is that Obraniak doesn't know our anthem. If you are going to represent a country, you should know it's anthem. These matches, tournaments, prizes, and glory are to see which country produces the best footballers and the best football, in general. You act as if you should be able to buy players for your national team.

    3. Make no mistake, international competition is just as much a business and economic venture for FIFA and UEFA as the domestic leagues are. If it were outside of professionals, then amateurs would play these games. However, it doesn't, these are professional footballers and their skill and talent on the field is more important than their ability to play karaoke.

  8. Same old Poland. Same old shitty football.

Look, you guys got your wish and got a game without Lewandowski. Got the same, if not worse, results.

  9. Imagine this team without Obraniak today!

  10. I have been absolutely stunned at some of the comments about Milik being better than Lewandowski on some of the websites. He was non-existent (more so than I've ever seen Lewy), missed one of his chances by a mile. His positioning was appalling, touch was off, lacked strength to give himself room and wasn't quick either. Overall poor performance was disappointing, and I don't think it was a case of poor vision from our players but lack of positioning.

I try to create to different formations in my mind, but I struggle to find players good enough to make it work. As odd as it may seem, I want to see Polanski further up the pitch as a CAM. He seems to offer good through balls, long shots and will offer a strong physical presence which seems to be lacking. Obraniak can then be moved to the left wing and would feed great crosses to Lewy who has great aerial ability. Alternatively, he can be moved to the right and cut into the inside to take long shots. My only problem with it is I can't think of someone to take Polanski's place and with Kuba gone, we don't have a winger strong enough to cover Piszczek when he charges forward.

Just something to think about, I'm not a tactical genius or anything but would be willing to hear someone who is interested in such things.

    1. The fact that a decent defensive midfielder is our best creative option says how poor this team is and why it will finish 5th in the Euro Cup qualifying group.

    2. I mean, I'm just throwing that out there. I don't know whether it would work in reality, but I just want to see Poland play well.

  11. Without Lewandowski and Blaszczykowski we are very very bad. I agree with people that Lewandowski is not doing well in the kadra but no one else comes close to being better than him. We have no other striker who is even average, they are all sub-par.

Ja juz kurwa nie wiem, this is just such a disappointing team.

    1. Agreed. Lewy has become a scape goat, but the fact of the matter is that we need to take care of our best man. People were fast to blame the poor performance on Ludo yet were quick and eager to get him back.

  12. i don't fucking care if the players sing the anthem or not. Perquis better be on the next team lineup because we need him! and olisadebe, and roger Rogerio and anyone that can help Poland..do you guys realize we lost to a team that is not even a recognized nation?! its pathetic

  13. Another thing is. Just as expected by nearly everyone except Boniek, Nawalka is going to produce the same results as Smuda and Fornalik did.

We need a good coach who is foreign not only because he may be more skilled, but even more importantly for the players morale. The players know that its just another Polish coach who isn't that great. If they see a foreign coach they will automatically have a different view of the situation. Its a strange psychological game but its a true one.

  14. It's crazy how when we had slightly better than average strikers like Ebi and Zurawski, Olisadebe, Frankowski, etc we still qualified for world cups and euros but with a top 5 in the world striker we are worse off. In fact this whole team is more talented than previous years yet they suck. i feel like these guys have no heart, they don't care enough about the team, the fans, the country. I'm mean our best player yesterday Obraniak is the only one who showed heart, yet he is the least Polish. Money has gotten to our players heads. The 70s and 80s teams played got paid shit yet were world beaters.

    1. A striker can't do pull miracles out of his ass, he needs a good midfield to supply those balls to him, we have no good playmakers. Cant expect 1 guy to carry a team of 11 on his shoulders, it's a team game, remember?

    2. We lack a play-maker. Obraniak is not very good as a CAM, but he's excellent at crosses and set pieces. Klich, Wolski, and Zielinski are too inexperienced and week to make an impact. So with that situating we are left with a hole that prevents strikers to get the ball.

    3. Common Sense NawalkaMarch 7, 2014 at 12:18 PM

I honestly think that we have to call up at least 3 U-21 players. They don't play for their club but they give the team that spark every time they come on, they at least have ambition. Look at the way they play on the U-21, thats an oiled machine except for a few occasional mistakes. Wolski,Zielinski,Pawlowski, maybe Linetty, possibly try out Dziwniel. A player who really deserved a callup this time was GROSICKI. Klich was non existent in our game vs Scotland because he had nobody creative enough to play with, everyone was just fucking standing there like a tree. Remember Denmark vs Poland? Our defense was shit but at least Klich playing Defensive Midfielder and Zielinski CAM gave us some movement.
